We are incredibly proud of designer Lukhanyo Mdingi, who revealed his latest collection to the world at Pitti Uomo 2021.
This highly-regarded fashion showcase is an important platform for men’s clothing and accessories collections, organising international fairs and events in all areas of men’s fashion. Carefully selecting their exhibitors, Pitti Uomo presents high-quality products with innovative styles that highlight cultural and social relevance.
In a world exclusive, Pitti Uomo 99 will see the Ethical Fashion Initiative (EFI) launch collections from 4 of Africa’s most interesting creative talents. Lukhanyo Mdingi and 3 other brands were selected from hundreds of applicants from all over the continent, and received extensive mentoring and business support from a panel of experts.
Lukhanyo has already had his work showcased on this platform, participating in the Pitti Uomo Fall 2017 Generation Africa exhibit in Florence and getting his first taste of international exposure.
Since then, Lukhanyo has had 4 more years of experience, honing his skills and refining the sense of soulfulness that gives his collections their signature steady, solid and strong look. This was particularly evident in The Diamond Fibre Collections, where he utilised Angora kid mohair to create a hybrid of something contemporary, refined and modern.
Off the back of this success, Lukhanyo is once again returning to Pitti Uomo to showcase his Coutts’ Collection on this impressive international platform.
A refined homage to the nuanced inner world of the late Nicholas Coutts, Coutts’ Collection pays tribute to the South African’s hand-woven tapestries and textiles. Lukhanyo and Nicholas had collaborated in the past, working together to create unique collections before Coutts’ passing in July 2020.
