Established in 2004, Mantsho by Palesa Mokubung, is the first South African design house to collaborate with global fashion giant H&M. The Mantsho x H&M collection was sold in their flagship and online stores worldwide.
Its distinctive signature prints and textiles are hallmarks of the label’s bespoke garments that balance a confident African aesthetic with an international sensibility, and have graced South African and international ramps, many times.
Mokubung holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Design. She was named “the African trend dictator” by True Love magazine and, in 2019, was honoured with the Free State Fashion Week’s Lifetime Achiever award, has received the GQ Best Dressed award as well as the Haig Club Clubman Disruptor award. She has also previously received the Carol Bouwer Mbokodo award for her valuable contribution in the field of arts and culture in South Africa.
Understanding the gap that exists between fashion schools and the industry, Mokubung is passionate about empowering young designers and imparting knowledge and skills. In 2019 she mentored ten young designers from the Eastern Cape for the annual Buyelekhaya Fashion Show Festival.
